Join us for the “Culturally Competent Care” Workshop

handsglobeCatherine McAuley Center’s Adult Basic Education Program and The Diversity & Inclusion Committee of Mercy Medical Center have collaborated to bring Dr. Mark Grey to Mercy Medical Center for a “Culturally Competent Care” workshop on Tuesday, May 7th from 4:30 PM to 7 PM.  This workshop is open to all  volunteering or working in healthcare and human service fields. The workshop will help participants understand the effects the growing immigrant and minority populations have on their services and how to be culturally competent in their service provision.

When: Tuesday, May 7th from 4:30 PM to 7:00 PM–Registration and dinner starts at 4:30 PM and is included in the registration fee.

Presenter, Dr. Mark Grey, is the Director of the Iowa Center for Immigrant Leadership and Integration and is an expert on immigration, integration, and healthcare in Iowa. He has previously partnered with CMC to facilitate an informal discussion over the exploding and diverse immigrant populations in Iowa. On Tuesday May 7th,  the “Culturally Competent Care” workshop at Mercy Medical Center will focus on Iowa’s rapidly changing populations and the challenges and opportunities of these demographic shifts for health care and human service providers.  An introduction to the core principles and practices of providing culturally competent care will be provided as well as strategies for institutions and individual workers. Continuing education credits available.
