Tommy became a student at Catherine McAuley Center in October of 2024. Tommy worked hard to learn English and also worked with CMC’s Resource Navigation team to do things like get a bus pass, apply for health benefits, and go to the doctor.
With the help of the amazing team at CMC, Tommy was able to secure an apartment for his family, sign and understand the terms of the lease, secure employment, help his children in school, and even bring his mother to America from Syria.
Tommy’s mother shared that his one DREAM was to go to college in the United States, and with his hard work we helped make that happen. After being in Iowa for one year, Tommy qualified to study at the University of Iowa. CMC’s amazing team helped Tommy with all of his paperwork, deadlines, studying for entrance exams, and proudly wrote a glowing reference for such an amazing and dedicated student.
When Tommy saw the reference letter on the official Catherine McAuley Center stationary, he got emotional in his pride. Tommy knew this was going to change his life, and it did. Tommy was accepted to the University of Iowa and is currently working on his Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science.
